Great Fish Pics from 2010

Almost everyone who comes to
the resort says that just being here is great and any fish they catch are an
added plus. Well, this page is for those "added pluses" that make the trip "Up
North" even better. All the pictures below were taken in 2010.
The year got off to a slow start, picture wise, but I'm
finally getting some great pics to post here. There
weren't many "big" fish caught early this summer but since July began, we have
seen quite a few very nice fish. Fishing has been very good
all season long but guests have been taking pictures with their digital cameras
instead of having me take the pictures. Just keep sending in those photos,
folks, and I'll get them posted. |

Last year, I had George Porter's picture here with a big crappie. This year,
it's these beautiful jumbo perch.
And George wasn't the only one catching jumbos and lots of them. For
about two weeks, mid-September, everybody had limits of jumbos and it didn't
seem to take very long to catch them either. You do a lot of sorting but
it's constant action. It's hard to believe but you're bringing in a fish
and 10 more are chasing it up to the boat. Gotta love the jumbo perch. |

Mid-September, 2009 Girl Lake has some beautiful
largemouth bass and a few smallies but most of our guests catch
smallmouth bass out on Woman Lake. Woman has great
smallmouth structure with many rocky bars next to deep water.
Jim Jacobsen is pictured below with a tremendous 5 lb. plus
smallmouth that he released after we got pictures taken.
What a great fighting fish smallies are. |

Mid-August Crappies have been making a great come back the
last couple of years. There are a couple of real sweet
spots on Girl Lake that produce excellent catches of crappie
over 10". But we don't often see many at 13 1/2".
Chris Engman caught this beauty fishing and his fishing partner,
Tony Weeks, caught a 14" fish about the same time. Both of
them released these big ladies to spawn again next spring. |

Here's a great story. Vic Martinez is one of my real
serious crappie fishermen. He has a very simple but somewhat different
technique that he occasionally shares with others that always seems to bring
home the nice crappies. So when I heard about some big crappie biting out
in Lantern Bay, Vic, his friend Tony and Vic's son Cruz fired up the boat and
headed out one morning.
They were trolling for crappie in deep water when Cruz, using a #6 hook on a Lindy rig, thinks he's
snagged a weed. His pole stays bent over hard but there's
this little twitch every once in a while that feels like
something more active then a weed. Finally, the sinker
comes above water and they look over the side and see this thing
laying along side the boat.
With only a little #6 hook
in the flesh at the corner of it's mouth, they know they only
get one chance with the net. A net, by the way, that's
only half as deep as the fish is long. One big scoop from
behind and into the boat. Now the fish decides things
aren't right and the flopping and jumping starts. Barefoot
Cruz has to dance just to stay out of the way. Finally
subdued, the tape measure comes out to see if it's a legal fish.
37". So it's into the live well to be mounted. Cruz
and Tony are pictured below. Next summer, I hope to have a
picture of the mount.

Kandi Daby and her family have been coming to the resort for 5 or 6 years
now, I think. Out with her Dad one morning on Girl Lake, Kandi brings in
this beautiful 27" walleye. I think it was bigger than all the rest of the fish
they caught the rest of the week.

Nice bass are pretty common on Girl Lake. But this one was exceptional.
Glen Graham caught and released this 22" beauty early in June. In weighed
in over 6 lbs. Thanks for letting her go back in the lake, Glen.
She'll be bigger next year and you know where she likes to hide.
